What Is Interior Design?

Interior design is all about how we perceive our environments. It has a significant impact on how we live, work, play, and even rejuvenate on a daily basis. Interior design is about more than just making a house a home. It’s about making it a place people want to spend time in.

What Do Interior Designers Do?

Designers use a wide range of abilities and technological expertise to create environments that anticipate our desires and appeal to our emotions. Since its infancy as a profession in the early twentieth century, interior design has seen enormous transformations.

Interior designers are expected to be proficient in the following areas:

  • Textiles, materials, color, design of interior spaces, and sustainability
  • CAD and BIM (building information modeling) software for 2D and 3D design (BIM)
  • Requirements for structural integrity, public health and safety, and building code compliance

Architects, engineers, and craftsmen are just a few of the people who work alongside interior designers nowadays. To be a good interior designer, you must have a well-rounded education and the ability to work in a variety of fields (architecture; graphic design; decorative arts; and textile, furniture, and lighting design).
